The guys and dolls of IU Theatre will rock the house, AND the boat, starting April 18th, at the Ruth N. Halls Theatre. This is Guys & Dolls as it should be done. A big and beautiful, no holds barred production, with music director Terry LaBolt and choreographer Liza Gennaro contributing their substantial experience and creative talents.
M.F.A. director Lee Cromwell shares his vision for this production, which is his thesis project. “Many of us are familiar with Guys and Dolls, so for this production we are working to discover what it is like to fall in love all over again with these larger-than-life characters. The world that Runyon created is so vibrant and specific that our production captures much of this grand idea of life in the fast lane. I love the enthusiasm and energy that everyone in the production, cast and crew alike, are bringing to the production.”
The cast includes sophomore Joey Birchler as gambler Sky Masterson, and junior Markus McClain as the entrepreneurial Nathan Detroit. Junior Meghan Goodman, featured last summer in IFT’s SWING!, is the pious and determined Sarah Brown, and sophomore Kaitlyn Smith will delight audiences as Miss Adelaide.
Scenic design for Guys & Dolls is by third-year M.F.A. Lauren Lusk who designed this season’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, costumes by second-year M.F.A. Johna Sewell, whose work was featured in the first show of the season, The Imaginary Invalid, and finally, Derek Jones, who created the lighting for this Fall’s CHICAGO, is the lighting designer for this production. http://www.indiana.edu/~thtr/productions/2013/guysanddolls.shtml
