Peter Pan PALOOZA starts this weekend!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 5, 2017

Bloomington turns into Neverland as Peter Pan soars into the IU Cinema, IU Theatre and Cardinal Stage Company. Beginning this September audiences can revel in a Peter Pan Palooza, starting with National Theatre Live: Peter Pan at IU Cinema, followed by IU Theatre’s October production of Peter and the Starcatcher, and Peter Pan at Cardinal Stage Company in December.

All children grow up, except one, in this National Theatre Live recorded performance of J.M. Barrie’s much-loved tale Peter Pan, playing at the IU Cinema. Tag along as Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, invites Wendy Darling and her brothers to Neverland. A riot of magic, music, and make-believe, join Tinker Bell, Tiger Lily, and the vengeful Captain Hook in this wondrously inventive production. A delight for children and adults alike. Showing on Saturday, September 9th, at 3:00 pm.

IU Theatre continues its 2017-18 Season with Peter and the Starcatcher, by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker. Adapted from the 2006 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, this wildly imaginative production features ingenious stagecraft, music, and an ensemble of twelve actors portraying over 100 characters.

A prequel to J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy, Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how an orphan boy becomes the legendary Peter Pan. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair…and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

Peter and the Starcatcher is directed by Murray McGibbon, who last directed King Lear, Noises Off and M. Butterfly for IU. “We’re using the audience’s imagination… how much can we do with as little as possible?” says McGibbon. “The emphasis is on the actors, and it looks as though it’s being made up as they go along. It’s got that kind of ‘made-in-your-garage’ feel, and that really appeals to me. It’s brilliant bare-bones theatre.”

The Peter and the Starcatcher creative team includes Ray Fellman (Musical Director), Berklea Going (Choreography), Darrian Brimberry (Lighting Designer), Tony Stoeri (Sound Designer), Reuben Lucas (Projection Designer), Chip Davis (Technical Director), and Jennie Fischer (Props Master). Alana Yurczyk (Scenic Design) and Courtney Foxworthy (Costume Designer) are M.F.A. students who are designing Peter and the Starcatcher for their M.F.A. thesis project.

And finally, clap your hands and believe this holiday season as Cardinal Stage Company soars to new heights with the beloved classic Peter Pan! Cardinal’s 11th Annual Family Holiday Musical brings Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, Tinker Bell and Captain Hook to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. With a bit of faith, trust, and pixie dust, J.M. Barrie’s magical tale will take audiences to the second star on the right, with a musical score that includes such favorites as “Neverland” and “I Won’t Grow Up”. Performances run December 15th through 30th.

On behalf of all our Peter Pan partners, we invite you to come out and enjoy the magic of theatre!
